Improved Viewport Auto-Naming

bcd

Question

I would like Viewports to Auto-Name more intelligently.

Currently they are sequentially numbered but this has very little to no value.

Much better would be the addition of their Sheet Number / Design Layer name, eg.

Sheet Number 5-Viewport 1 or

Sheet Name-VP 1 - Front/OGL/1:240

Why: The Organization Palette allows control of Design Layer visibilities for Viewports but if they haven't been carefully named on creation it's impossible to identify which Viewport is which.

Also re. Organization>Visibilities>Sheet Layers

Please include the Sheet Name in addition to the Sheet Number.

Also Please allow in-place-editing of the editable values.

and naturally the placement of a Drawing Label will Co-ordinate with the Viewport Name much as Section Viewports currently do.

I think this ^^^ should also track changes so that if you move a viewport from 'Sheet Number 5' to 'Sheet Number 27' the viewport name would also change to reflect its current placement.

To further this wish, I think that it would be best if there were preset options in the Vectorworks Preferences for automatically naming the viewports, maybe:

Option 1: [sheet number]-[drawing number]-[user specified viewport name]

or -

Option 2: [sheet number]-[drawing number]-[truncated drawing name]

I was searching for something else and ran across this.

I've been wishing for the same thing except with my workflow (shop production drawings) what would work best for me is if the viewport could automatically be named with numbers like above with the "View" added to it as an option.
