Symbols in Solid Additions

Recommended Posts

I also expected a giant error warning but nothing happened.

OK, Solid Additions can have one common parent Class/Color/Material only.

And there won't be additional Texture Selections with the other Materials

grouped in SA's when exported to Cinema.

Didn't notice as I played with furniture having one same Material only.

Pity,

as SA's export very well in C4D/FBX and group every content into one

single Mesh Item.

It seems unlikely but yes you can perform Solid Additions/ Subtractions and other Booleans between Symbol-Symbol and Symbol-Solid.

^ Attributes & Textures are lost

Hybrid Symbols lose their 2d components.

Otherwise it's a great feature

Worst case I have seen is sometimes if you are many levels within a solid, the symbols 3d geometry doesn't always update if you alter the source symbol, but normally you just need to edit the symbol again and exit and it will push the update.

Untill now I always had to open and close a subtraction to make it see the changes made to the symbol, but for additions it is apparently not the case.

You should really make a mental note to check everytime you change something to the symbol.

(would this be solved of you push it through marionette, or you still have to 'update' it?)

OK, so Symbols in Solids as a viable option in some special cases.

As outside of VW I get problems with Symbols, Extrudes and simple Grouping,

as a workaround it SA's will export as a single Mesh Item and they correct

Extrudes Face Normals,

while keeping everything parametric, optimized and editable inside of VW.
