Opening MiniCad 6 files on VW10

Recommended Posts

How do I open MC 6 files in VW 10. I can't find a File Translator for VW 10 on your web site to do this. I do not want to install VW 9 to have to do this. Sorry if this has been discussed already, I can't find any info on it.

VW 10 can only convert back to MC 7 files.

To open a MC 6 file, it needs to first be converted to MC 7, VW 8 or VW 9 which can then be converted to VW 10.

If you don't have any of the earlier versions, please feel free to email it to me and I would update it for you.

Brian,

Thanks for the offer. I have MiniCad going back to version 3. I was just trying to avoid having to re-install an earlier version of the program to convert these old files. Sounds like I have no choice.

Dear Bruce,

I have had the same issue with old files. As a working professional I value my time and my client's time.

1. I also don't like do do things over.

2. I don't have room for paper backup.

3. I don't want to keep a work station running System 8 just for MInicad.

I can understand not being able to open NEW files with OLD software. That's OK. Illustrator, PhotoShop, Word, will all open OLD files. I thought CAD meant computer aided design.

On the cover of the Vector Works 10 box wrap is a pump cutaway that I did in the late 80's with Minicad 4 or 5. If that client called me today I would have to start from scratch. I may as well have rendered the project with an air brush.

P.S. The new Pumps are not that different.

Most of your CAD programs work that way because of things constantly changing in vector definitions as computers get smarter.

AutoCad I know has limited convertion and exporting versions. You can't export to a version more than 3 versions back .. just like VW.

Comparing a vector file definitions to a text based or image based application is like comparing apples to peanuts.
