The Cantor
Maybe it's too late for me to think straight, but how can I make a shape that is basically an oval, swept 360 degrees, so I can then split in half? I have a chandelier I am trying to recreate that looks like an egg split in half along long axis.HELP! Quote Link to comment
Benson Shaw
Lots of ways. Here's one: Draw a 2d oval, long axis vertical. Split it with Split tool along the long axis. Delete half, keeping only the right half. Model>Sweep set the angle to 180°. Result is a half ovaloid (?) Note: Keep the right half, because the Sweep tool sweeps around the left most part of the object (or place a 2d vertex anywhere left of the object as the sweep anchor) -B Quote Link to comment
michaelk
You're not going to believe this, but there is an ellipsoid tool. Add that to your workspace. Create the ellipsoid. Split it with the split tool or subtract solid with another solid Use the extract tool to get a nurbs surface that is the shape you're looking for. hth mk Quote Link to comment

michaelk
Why do ballrooms have to have such large ugly chandeliers to start with? They just get in the way of every show that comes through. And why do they make the rigging points hard to get to, in inconvenient places, and not where they are in the drawings? mk Quote Link to comment
RickR
As a consultant on a recent large ballroom project I can tell you we tried very hard to make it work. And then stuff happens... Event equipment and gear is a very low priority until the hotel staff is on site. Quote Link to comment
The Cantor
I ended up making oval/split/sweep/subtract solid. Worked well. See image. Quote Link to comment
