VW to Blender issues

Recommended Posts

Hi,

wondering if anyone out there uses Blender to render anything.

I seem to have no trouble exporting as a 3ds. and importing into blender, but when I go to apply textures to extruded polys, what was solid in VW is now a series of triangular shapes that are not connected.

Anyone else have this issue?

Thanks,

Matthew

Exporting into 3ds format generates meshes, often triangulated, which is e.g. quite similar to AutoCAD 3D exports.

You may want to try some other export format than Blender can use (SAT will generate triangulated meshes as well and I assume STEP may do this too but I'll find that out over the weekend).

You could try DAE (Collada) or OBJ instead as export format.

It depends on the kind of Object used in VW.

For DXF, I get welded meshes for things like extrudes,

unfortunately generic solids come out unwelded, which is a problem.

C4D and FBX export seem to get welded geometry out,

just the problem that the Top Faces of all Extrudes are flipped.

And each solid object will come out as a separate mesh item, which

is not easy to control in common 3D Apps.

Welding vertices of mesh objects later again is not a big problem in

a 3D app - as long as there aren't any Faces touching that belong to

different objects.
