EXPLODING TILES

Recommended Posts

We have used tiles to generate tile patterns for a mall project and now need to export them to DWG. Tiles do not seem to export.

Is there a way - to explode a tile filled polygon and then be left with the tiles as objects?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Tom

In a test here, Tiles did export from 2016 SP2 (Verified in the A360 viewer)

Do you get the same problem in a new blank document with some test tile fills exported to DWG?

I did. I moved it to a blank document. I need to go back and see if I can replicate it -but it appeared the problem was that the objects inside the geometry settings for the tile were a group - and that the tile exported correctly when they were ungrouped.

Thanks

That would not surprise me, objects in groups can play havoc with many export formats. Groups are great for organization but I often have to break them apart when troubleshooting.

Can someone post the export settings used to get this?  I'm testing the file on AutoCAD LT 2016 and tiles are not showing up.  I'm exporting as a 2010 DWG and have 'Export images & image files' and 'Export Hatches' turned on.  I checked to make sure there are no groups in my tiles.  Any advice?  Thank you.

I would also like to know Tom's original question, is there a way to explode tiles (and or hatches) for that matter, leaving the resulting linework behind? Could be useful for other workflows as well.

I've wanted to do this a few times, but have never found a way. Would be a great function to add.

Knowing how to explode them/convert into polygons would be awesome so I can have a worksheet count them.

So I heard back from tech support regarding what settings to use.  They said to use the default settings to be able to export fills.  I'm guessing that it's the 'Export 2D fills' setting specifically, this setting has caused problems in the past so we'd be avoiding using it.
