Changing dimension text size in viewport

Recommended Posts

I know one way, but it's kind of convoluted and does not involve the VP class overrides.

Basically you can control the dimension text size via the text style assigned to a class. You do this by either switching the dim to a different class with a different text style, or by altering the text style in the class definition.

So you need a class(s) with a text style assigned, and a text style(s) that includes the text size you want. Then assign your design layer dimensions to the class with the desired text style/size. It's probably best to leave the default Dimension class as is, and create one or more new "dimension" classes. Vectorworks has a couple default Dimension text styles (10 point and 12 point)

Create one or more new text styles, say Dims08pt, Dims24pt, etc with corresponding font size.

Create a new class(s) for design layer dimensions, say DimsDL_Alt. In the class definition dialog, there is a pull down about half way down to assign a text style. Pick the appropriate text style for the font size required.

In the drawing DL, reassign the dims to appropriate new class and make all attributes By Class.

When viewing the Viewport the dimensions in the Dimxx classes can be changed via class definition edits in Nav Palette or Organization Palette. This affects the Design Layer AND the VP.

For some reason, the VP class overrides are not accepting changes to the text style. I'm making a new post about that.

Post back if you can't get it to work.
