Rendering Perf - Help!

I am trying to render a steel table top with a custom perforation pattern in it. Rather than subtracting 10,000 holes from my table top, I am trying unsuccessfully to make a texture map that does this. For some reason the texture map that I have created is not editable; meaning that all of my controls in my Obj Info pallet are grey. Further, while the texture map is rectangular, the map comes through square, which stretches the holes.

What am I doing wrong?

thanks in advance.

If you change the Map Type from Auto Align Plane to Plane, you should then be able to use the Attribute Mapping tool on it and asymmetrically scale the texture to get the aspect, size and alignment you need.

This section of the Renderworks guide (at around 6min on this chapter) covers the basics of using Attribute Mapping on textured 3d surfaces and may clarify:

This is a Bug/None Feature.

Rectangular Textures work in every channel except in Transparency by Stencil Map.

All non-square Texture files will get stretched to get square.

And be sure that Stencil Maps will be b/w only, no gray shades.

In that case it will take many times more render time.

If you need grayscale Transparencies, use Transparency Texture Channel.

Also in your case as it will give nearly the same result, without distorting.

I normally use Perimeter Mapping.

This will respect the size that you set in Material Properties.

The Center for tiling will start at a corner of each Face.

Hi,

What I do is to create my own textures in Photoshop. Find a perf picture you want then create a texture from it and then use the image in the transparency section and voula.

See attached.

The VW file is large because of the textures but if you cant work it out I can do a short Youtube video to show you.

Perf Mesh.jpg is the image that you use to make the texture.

Make sure you scale by image that way you dont have to guess it.

You put in the actual size of the image.

To get a nicer effect do 0 extrude other wise you have depth to the mesh which may work for you also.

That is wonderful news! Coincidentally, the last two weeks I've been teaching my students about textures and mapping them to objects, and I feel terrible every time I have tell them "Vectorworks can't do that" (which has happened more often than I wish)... particularly after I've been telling them all along about how awesome Vectorworks is.
