Rotated Plan View - Should we avoid if possible?

Recommended Posts

I have been running into a ton of small and odd problems that seem to crop up when the plan is rotated. We have several projects where PMs have set up the project with true north as up. This is causing the staff to have to draw in rotated plan view ALL the time.

Is this dangerous?

Should I advise people avoid rotated plan view when possible?

Should projects be set up to try and limit the amount of time people draft in rotated plan?

Thanks,

Tom

Hi, I tend to draw with North towards the top of the page, but will rotate the plan so that it is horizontal (0 rotation).

Have always worked in rotated mode as in the attached up until working in 3D. But I always find this an easy way to project the plan to the elevations and sections.

Never had an issue.

Hi Tom,

Just to add my 2 cents, we have encountered a number of small issues with working primarily in rotated plan, especially now we have moved to 3D / BIM type modelling.

Most of our issues have been resolved by making sure the file is ALWAYS saved with 0 rotation.
