domer1322
Can anyone tell me how to get the proper shader settings to make a stained glass window ? I know how to get an image and make the window. I can't figure out how to take the image/texture and make it render such that light goes through it and yet causes the colors in the glass to "glow" like a real stained glass window. Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted December 1, 2015 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted December 1, 2015 Backlit textures were overhauled in 2016, I am not sure if multicolored glass would have displayed light in that fashion in 2015 or not, in any case: http://www.vectorworks.net/getting-started-guides/renderworks/Gsg-2016-r11-backlit-and-glow-texture Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee Luis M Ruiz Posted December 1, 2015 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted December 1, 2015 I took the time to develop a sample file using 2016 rendering techniques. Please download the final render and sample file from this cloud link. https://beta.vcs.vectorworks.net/portal/link/e1c851d0-9877-11e5-a099-1254629aa003/ Quote Link to comment
bcd
Very interesting Luis. Very nice effect. I'll have to study this. Quote Link to comment
domer1322
thanks for the tips. However, I haven't upgraded to VW 2106 and I can't open your file, Luis. The jpg image is very impressive. Now I have something to aim for. PS: is there a method for me to open VW 2016 files when using VW 2015 ? Quote Link to comment
bcd
Beautiful Luis. Thanks for this, you've got it all going on here and the result is spectacular. (caustics, lit fog, bump, color, transparency, refraction) all that's missing are specs of dust dancers. I've played a little more with the backlit and I'm really surprised how little light it takes to blow away the color. Could this be a bug? Quote Link to comment
Markvl
That is fantastic Luis. Thanks for sharing. Very cool. Quote Link to comment

MinicadBoomer
Is there actually a way to make red acrylic in vectorworks? Im not talking about slightly pink or slightly opaque. Im talking about clear, high gloss red acrylic? Im using VW 2022 on a mac Quote Link to comment
BartHays
Try a new material, or start with the Acrylic RT material. Set color as needed, Brightness 30% Reflectivity: Glass> Default Transparency: Glass> Transmission, 95%, IoR: 1.49, Color: to match Base color. 3 Quote Link to comment
