patrickmcdesign
Alright, I'm working on a project using spotlight in vectorworks 2016. I have the scene set up, the lights are on, and I have human figures in the scene as well. When I go from OpenGL to final quality renderings things then go south. The lights are rendering, the set is rendering, but my human figures are coming out black. I've used this program before for the same type of thing, but this is the first that its ever done this to me. Any idea why my people are rendering like this? Quote Link to comment

Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted November 16, 2015 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted November 16, 2015 Do they do this when in a document on their own? Just copied and pasted into a new blank file? If its a rush, you can often ungroup them and their component parts can be manually retextured, but that shouldn't be needed if they appear properly in OpenGL. Quote Link to comment
patrickmcdesign
They only do this when I change to Final Quality rendering. When in open GL they are fine and look correct. Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted November 16, 2015 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted November 16, 2015 To confirm: In the new blank file the behavior is the same? You get the odd blackening? If so, post that test file and I can have a look. Quote Link to comment
patrickmcdesign
Yes in a new blank file the behavior is the same. Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted November 16, 2015 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted November 16, 2015 Confirmed here as well, even in 2016. However, the Human Figure tool was marked Legacy in the last revision, its possible that bugs on it won't be addressed until a replacement is developed. Submitting this as a bug now in any case. Mike Wright
I am having the same problem as posted previously on the forum. Does anybody have a good (free) repository of 3D human figures they can recommend? Quote Link to comment
rDesign
'Good and free' - well, you often get what you pay for - but a Google search for 'people 3ds free or 'people obj free' will bring up some options. You'll have to import them into Vw as either .3DS or .OBJ files, respectively. There is also the 3dWarehouse with collections of free 3D SketchUp people. HTH. Quote Link to comment
Mike Wright
Thanks I understand the mutual exclusivity between 'good' and 'free' :-) It's somewhat annoying though that vectorworks has effectively removed the extremely useful human figure tool without offering an alternative Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted December 9, 2015 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted December 9, 2015 It was a very useful tool, but the geometry it created was seriously problematic. Even before the rendering issues in this thread, the level of complexity in just a handful of them (for really, not-that-attractive figures) could bring slower machines to a crawl. I am not sure if the intention is to replace this tool with another similar tool that creates more attractive/efficient geometry, or if the plan is to move more to image props/3D symbol libraries of people. I'll ask. Quote Link to comment
Mike Wright
Thanks Jim It would be good to know if something is in the pipeline before I put my hand in my wallett Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted December 9, 2015 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted December 9, 2015 Thanks Jim It would be good to know if something is in the pipeline before I put my hand in my wallett Personally I have not seen evidence of anything in the near future related to this topic, certainly not within the bounds of this version. It may very well be worth it to pay for what you need now. Quote Link to comment
mjm
The human figure tool, as much of a disaster as it can be, has been of enormous use to me, in that I can create poses resembling that of the piece I am designing. This is very helpful to the artistic directors I work with. Anyone know of another tool, usable in VWX, which allows this kind of flexibility? 1 Quote Link to comment
