"where am I" status on the screen

grant_PD

Question

Often times I work inside groups of groups of groups inside of symbols. It would be helpful to see a sort of "address bar" so that I could see where I'm at. Like:

Symbol:Scenery A->Group1->Group2->extrude1

Which I could take to mean I was inside Symbol Scenery A, inside a nest of groups, inside extrude 1.

This would presuppose that VW auto named all extrudes and groups, something I wish it did anyway.

Vectorworks kind of does it already, though in a pretty rudimentary form and not incredibly apparent: the Layer pulldown menu at the top of the screen gets replaced by your 'location' whenever you're in container objects.

(If you enter a Symbol it resets itself though, so it's not helpful for nested Symbols since you'll only see the levels within the current Symbol.)

You can also name groups in the Data tab and those names will display in the dropdown list instead of "Group #".
