AlanW
Hi, trying to get the hang of marionette and wonder if others are having the same issue that if I move a block it separates all the links to some items, They show linked when moving but are not linked when stop moving the block.???? Also unwrapping seems to pull it apart also. I must be doing something wrong as I am new to this. Edited November 1, 2015 by Alan Woodwell Quote Link to comment
Jonathan Pickup
I dont think you are doing anything wrong. Quote Link to comment
Art V
I assume you also have to manually restore the links? If so then it seems like a major bug in Marionette. An automatic relink feature would be nice in that case. Quote Link to comment
bcd
Moving should not break the connections. I think you may have a type mismatch - where the inputs types don't match the expected input type. Does the network run successfully? Quote Link to comment
AlanW
Yes it still runs like this LOL. Small part happens to be not on Screen plane. The moved parts can be seen and the result is ghosted as I rotated to 3d. I have since re-did the script and no issues this time. Quote Link to comment
AlanW
Also if I render this script in top plan mode I get a entirely different result if I render in 3d Mode. Now am very new at this so its the end result I am interested in, but any comments on the method and ways to do it better always welcomed. Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted November 2, 2015 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted November 2, 2015 There is a way to specify the ground plane, I believe you just need to run the 2D poly/whatnot though a "Set PRefID to Ground" node from the Object Info node set. I think you just run the 2D geometry through this before other 3D operations or converting any of it to polylines and it will work. It is used in this example object: https://techboard.vectorworks.net/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=214375#Post214375 Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee SBarrettWalker Posted November 2, 2015 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted November 2, 2015 Alan, some nodes end up in Layer plane and some end up in Screen plane. If you are trying to create 2D objects I would suggest either the Set PrefID to Ground node that Jim mentioned, or just run your definitions in Top/Plan view. If you want to still see you definition in 3D I would also recommend selecting all the nodes in the definition and making sure they are all in the same Plane Mode. Quote Link to comment
AlanW
Thanks for this. Can you point me to the best place to learn this and is there a list of the nodes and what they all do that I can download? Have done a little bit of gaming programming before but this is all new to me so I am a real NOOB here with this. Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted November 2, 2015 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted November 2, 2015 Not designed to be downloadable, but the reference can be found here: http://developer.vectorworks.net/index.php/Marionette_Node_Reference As for the "Where to learn" part, I hope that I can create a huge repository of Marionette training in the future. This is an insanely powerful tool with applications all over the spectrum and the more noise that is made about us providing more training, the more likely I will be approved and allotted time to create it: https://techboard.vectorworks.net/ubbthreads.php?ubb=postlist&Board=33&page=1 Quote Link to comment
rDesign
twk also created a PDF of all the default Marionette nodes: All Marionette Nodes Quote Link to comment
AlanW
Fabulous, Thanks, I didn't look far enough down the forum list and find the new Marionette Section. Now I can get into this. Quote Link to comment
