changing record formats without losing data

Recommended Posts

late night session and really don't want to play trial and error !!

I have a few different symbols with a single record attached, and text linked to record. I have done a lot a data entry and realize i want to use a different record. I modified the original, added fields, etc. It is not currently attached to any of the symbols in the drawing or to the master symbol in the resource browser.

None of the info in the new record needs to be mapped, it is only for worksheets and exporting out.

My thoughts are to go into the resource browser, edit the symbols, attached the new record, remove the old one?

Then the only way i know how to update the drawing is to go thru it and replace all the symbols (select all, replace)

Then i should have the new record on all symbols in the drawing i hope.

I don't want to lose the info already in the original record, how do i carry that forward?

I don't want to lose any of the linked text either, will i have to rebuild?

The only other option i can think of is just as tedious right now and that is to go into the existing record and add in the added fields one at a time...

Any help before i try this would be great.

Thanks,

Drew
