House type symbol

Is it possible to produce a house type symbol which can have different configurations of the same basic building but with variation that can be controlled in the object info palette,e.g. End terrace (left handed), End terrace (right handed), Mid terrace (left handed) and Mid terrace (right handed)?

I know that I can mirror symbols but I would like each type to be identified as a separate unit in a schedule.

Or is this in the realm of the PIO. If so is it very complex to achieve.

I believe AutoCAD can do something similar within its blocks.

One alternative would be to have a "Master" Symbol that contained several nested Symbols and one could Replace these as required in the OIP.

If one wished to illustrate several of these "Master" Symbols in the same document I would suggest Covert each example of the "Master" to a Group (Command K) but don't convert the nested symbols and Replace the nested symbols within each group to achieve your look.

One could then save each of these Groups as Symbols on their own.

You can do this using Design Layer Viewports. One way:

Create a separate file for each variant. (4 files)

in your Master file create a Design Layer for each and on each Design Layer place a single Design Layer Viewport referencing one of the individual files. (4 DLs with one DLVP each)

Turn off the 4 DLVP Layers.

Now Create a new Design Layer in the Master file with a new 'instance' DLVP referencing only the 4 Layers above.

You can duplicate, elevate, reposition & rotate this 'instance' DLVP and turn on the house (Layer) you prefer.

Maybe I do not understand.

But I would just create one Symbol of House A.

Duplicate as often as Needed, House B, C, D, ...

Make needed changes in Duplicates.

Distribute House A on site.

When you want to replace House A with House B,

Magic Wand Selection > Object Type + Symbol Name = Select all House A at once

OIP > Replace > House B

If you want to instantly switch between all Houses,

create a separate Class for each House Symbol,

Edit Symbol Options > assign House Symbols each their own Class.

Distribute -all- House Symbols on Site

Make all needed Classes visible - except House Symbol Classes.

Now you can switch between these by making one of their Classes

to the active Class ....
