This is a file system error which means

-51 rfNumErr Reference number invalid

I have no idea what that means more than that though at the moment.

Are you saving directly to a network server?

Can you save elsewhere on the network from within VW without getting that message?

Do you have Read and Write permissions for the folder in which the file is being saved?

Are you saving directly to a network server?

- yes, windows 2000 from the macs in the office using

vectorworks 10.1

Can you save elsewhere on the network from within VW without getting that message?

- to the host imac, no problem.

Do you have Read and Write permissions for the folder in which the file is being saved?

- as far as i know it is set up automatically.

Can you save the file to your local computer and then copy it to the directory you are saving it to?

that is what we have had to do,

i was hoping that there was a simple fix, as some in the office are resistant to not saving directly to the server.

Could this be related to the oddity that a VectorWorks file can't be opened from a CDR?

We have to copy them off the disk to our desktops to be able to view the file. Adobe and other files open directly from the disk with no problem.

we always get that message in our office whenever we try to open a file that is already open on somebody elses machine on the network. it also occurs if you are trying to access a file that someone is resourcing out of.

hope that helps.

the only solution is to get that person to close the file...

GA

You should get a different number if that is the case. You should get a -49 in that case.

Are you getting the -51 error number?

What type of server setup do you have?

hi katie, hi forum

i have a costumer with the same problem as jb.

do you know at the moment any solution for the "-51...." message?

our costumer has VW 9.5.3 / OS X 10.2.4 / Win2000 Server.

the problem exist only on one computer. saving to the local machine and copying on the server works properly.

the user has the same permissions like the other users on the other computers.

could it be a problem on the local machine or a problem on the win2000 server?

thanks for any solutions!!!!!

greetings from switzerland

It's probably a permission or setting on the Win2k server.

The 51 error message means the remote computer is not available.
