The Set Manager

Tom Klaber

Question

Project sharing can now bring an entire project under 1 roof which opens up some really great coordination possibilities.

I think there should be a new "Set Manager" which would bring together the functionality of the issue, revision, and publish tools.

The record issues and revisions records, which are currently held inside the sheet border symbol, should be brought out and centrally control. A "New Issue" feature would allow you to select sheets from a list with a check-off box, and automatically adjust those title blocks with the issue info, auto fill in the X of X page counter, and modify a sheet list object that could be placed on a cover page.

It would keep track of what sheets have been issued, re-issued, added since last issue, and revised.

My last Bump.  I want this more than ever.  This is a money idea.

We have the Resource Manager - now we need the "Set Manager"  - Something that now only publishes but keeps tracks of when sheets were created and issued over time.  Keeps track of issues and revisions and modifies the title blocks appropriately.  Now that we are moving to single file projects this is more possible than ever.

Right now the whole system is backwards - with the title block object containing  the information.  So when you make an issue - you have to go add that issue data to each sheet.  It should be the other way around where the title block inherits  this information from the set manager.  So the workflow would be to "Create Issue or Revision"  then select the sheets that belong in that issue or revision and the info will be pushed appropriately.  There will need to be some way of handling sheet number changes - but you guys can handle that.
