RWSD
Point cloud [known xyz file] imports as flat 2d object Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted September 16, 2015 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted September 16, 2015 Post it, and I can certainly take a look! If its private, get in touch with support directly and they can take the file in a more discrete manner for testing: http://www.vectorworks.net/international/ Quote Link to comment
RWSD
Turns out it works if one renders it in Open GL; in wireframe [or any other render mode] it just displays as a flat low-res image. Is it possible to convert point cloud objects into useable VW solid or NURBS objects? Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted September 16, 2015 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted September 16, 2015 They can't be converted for now. The points are made snappable to that it can be used as a reference for drawing with exact measurements. If you just want the solid geometry, normally you would convert the point cloud or export it as a 3D solid from the scanner instead, then import it as one of the 3D formats we've supported for awhile now like 3DS or more recently, OBJ. RWSD
Ok, thanks. Point cloud should be 3d in wireframe though? Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted September 16, 2015 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted September 16, 2015 Correct, if its not, make sure to get the file to support for closer inspection. Quote Link to comment
Jeremy London
Is there any way of controlling the origin / position of a point cloud when importing into Vectorworks 2016? It seems that the point cloud it is always centered on the internal origin, and not aligned with the internal or user origin. A surveyor has supplied me with DWG files and .e57 Point Cloud files for the same job, that align with eachother perfectly in Revit thanks to the origin options on Revit's point cloud import dialogue. The only way I've found to match the point cloud to the DWG in Vectorworks is to manually reposition it. Hopefully I'm missing something obvious here. Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted April 20, 2016 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted April 20, 2016 Not yet, it has to be imported and then positioned after. Some point cloud file types contain origin/georeference-like info and some do not, I believe the plan is to support it for those that do in the future or at least add a UI element to control it during import. Klaus Koch
I'd be interested getting hold of a point cloud file to import as a trial. Any ideas from where I could download such a file for playing around with. Quote Link to comment
zoomer
Something like this ? http://graphics.stanford.edu/data/3Dscanrep/ Quote Link to comment
Klaus Koch
Almost. I am looking for a file format that can be imported directly from VW (LAS, LAZ, PTS, E57, XYZ). Quote Link to comment
zoomer
Yes, realized that the quite common .ply does not work. And I do not find any demo geometry for VW formats in the internets so far. Quote Link to comment
AlanW
Hi, Can download them from here. http://www.libe57.org/data.html The St Sulpice is nice to walk around. Go file/import/point cloud HTH Edited May 3, 2016 by Alan Woodwell 1 Quote Link to comment
