fabrica
Hi All, is OS X El Capitan ok with Vectorworks 2015? was thinking of upgrading before the Sept.30th launch... Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted September 11, 2015 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted September 11, 2015 No official word yet but initial testing has seen multiple issues, I would personally advise against it for the time being. Quote Link to comment
zoomer
Will VW 2016 (only 5 days left ?) be OS X Latest ready from the beginning ? Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted September 11, 2015 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted September 11, 2015 When Vectorworks 2016 is released, it will be compatible with all released operating systems at the time of launch, yes. For OSes that are still in prerelease or beta there are no guarantees. If any OSes are released during the life of a current version of Vectorworks, it will be patched to be compatible in its next one or two SPs normally. Quote Link to comment

So depending on whether Vw2016 is released before or after OS X El Capitain 10.11 (on Sept. 30), Vw2015 might not get a SP update? Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted September 11, 2015 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted September 11, 2015 No, sorry if I worded it poorly. 2015 is going to get another SP regardless of anything about 2016. Generally the final service packs for our last few versions have been to introduce compatibility with the latest OSes if at all possible. Quote Link to comment
rDesign
Perfect - thanks JimW. Quote Link to comment
zoomer
Not so nice that there already occurred some issues. So better not to go to El Capitan at release day, until there comes a SP for VW 2015 that makes it officially EC ready. And your other software. Same could be if you want to use VW 2016. fabrica
thanks! were you having problems with 2015 or 2016....!! Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted September 11, 2015 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted September 11, 2015 Both were having similar issues, with most of the testing being done in 2016 but that may just be because thats what the QA folk were focusing on the last few months more heavily. Most often OS incompatibilities affect multiple Vectorworks versions. Quote Link to comment
rDesign
Personally - I would never upgrade to a new OS on the release day because you're just asking for trouble. I always wait until at least the first OS update package is released, like 10.11.1. Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted September 11, 2015 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted September 11, 2015 ^ This is sound advice. I upgrade right away because its my job to know whats going to happen, but it make sense to let people like me be the canary in the coal mine and to keep your computer (your moneymaker, the most important tool outside of your skull!) running, even if its a few months out of date, especially if there isnt anything in El Capitan you NEED to have right away. fabrica
maybe JimW I'll be distracted by VW2016.. what date did you say it was out again?.. Quote Link to comment

Jim Smith
sooo, should I time the purchase of my next MacBook Pro to before or after the 30th? BTW, I was hoping the new OS would continue the nomenclature of early 60's TV Characters and had Gilligan as the name in the pool. I'm not too disappointed, after all The Skipper was the el Captain of the SS Minnow. Other notable names in the pool: Kuryakin (as in (Illya Kuryakin) , Maxwell (as in Agent 86) Marshal (as in Marshal Dyan) and my second fav: Jed (Uncle Jed Klampet) Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted September 11, 2015 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted September 11, 2015 If you do it before the 30th, youll probably get Yosemite, I would recommend that since I don't think we will see any Mac hardware bumps before the Os release. Im still furious they think its ok to use "10.10" and "10.11" as sequential numbers. My math teachers in school would have slapped them. Quote Link to comment
HP Sauce
Hello - it's that time of year again! Any more news on whether either 2014 or 2015 will work in El Capitan? If not, will there be service patches or are we forced to upgrade to 2016? Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted September 29, 2015 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted September 29, 2015 I've already seen quite a few bug reports in testing for 2016 and 2015, though I do not think 2014 will be tested at all and if 2014 does have incompatibilities, they will no longer be patched, sp5 was its last. Vectorworks 2016 software will be patched to be compatible as usual, there are already a number of fixes in the pipe. 2015 is the edge case, if things are fixable before its last service pack, then that SP might be delayed in order to include them, but nothing is certain yet. dtheory
Probably a question that Jim can't answer, but Jim, is there any sense of how long it might take to crank out the first service pack for 2016 to get some nominal El Cap compatibility? Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted September 29, 2015 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted September 29, 2015 No specifics on SPs, unfortunately. Their release dates are way more fluid than regular releases. Quote Link to comment
Chris Brough
Does anyone have a date log of when previous versions received service packs? Perhaps a pattern can provide some information. Quote Link to comment
Balus
Does anyone know if VW 2014 is compatible with Mac OS X 10.11? Quote Link to comment

BigAl97
I would love to see comments from any canaries that have taken the plunge into El Capitan. Quote Link to comment
