Introduction to Marionette

The “Marionette” subsystem will provide the Vectorworks user with the ability to algorithmically generate geometry and other Vectorworks objects, using a graphical flow chart like language making the system very accessible to architects and other non-programmers. The basic unit of the language is termed a “Tile” and represents either a type or function.

Marionette exposes the power and flexibility of Vectorworks scripting to designers and architects who do not want to work in a traditional text based language.

Functions or Procedures are represented by “Nodes”. Vectorworks 2016 ships with an extensive library of nodes which are all easily accessible from the new Marionette Tool.

Nodes are connected with wires. Data travels through a “Script” or network as we often call it, from left to right. “Input” nodes expect some argument to be supplied on the Object Info Palette. When the network is complete, it can be executed from the context menu.
