And, questions:

The title block record format can (has to?) exist outside of the RB>Title Block Components folder, which is the RB folder that contains the title block symbol.

•Should that TB record format be placed inside the folder?

•Are there other objects/things which are normally held in the folder?

Seems strange to have two components, one by itself in a folder (the symbol), the other (record format) located outside the folder.

•If the folder contains only one object, why do we need the folder?

•Or have I been title blocking incorrectly all these years!!!??

Startng from the bottom.

Yes, you need the folder because the Title Block object looks for the symbol(s) in a folder with that name. Just the way the object was written.

The record format has to exist outside the folder because the only type of objects that can be included in folders are symbols. Long time limitation based on a design spec from decades past.

If you use different title blocks, then they will all get stored in the same folder.

Some thing you just have to accept as That's the Way It Is.

Most of this is over my head -but I desperately want a smarter title block. I have never been able to get the built-in title block to do what I need - so we use a custom symbol which works alright, but it should be so much smarter.

I want the title block to auto fill from the sheet layer info both # and name. I want to establish better revision tracking that auto numbers all sheets with the .01, .02 rather than having to change that manually on all pages of a set.

I suspect there are ways to make this happen - but it should be easy to design your own title block and then insert these capabilities.

I do all of my printing from saved views that all use the same sheet layer. Because of that, my title block has text blocks and other elements that are duplicated and classed so that when I want to look at "plate 1" only the appropriate info for that class is shown. And since all of that info is built into my record format, then I double click on the title block, I'm able to fill in the info for all of the plates at once and just know that the correct info will show on the proper page. It is still a manual process, but at least it's all in one place, as opposed to have to go to a plate, update info, then go to the next plate and start again.
