Show other objects while in editing modes

I use the preference setting 'Show other objects while in editing modes' only when I apply dimensions to viewports on a sheet – to make sure that dimensions in one viewport are aligned to dimensions in adjoining viewports.

In every other situation, this setting is off.

I wish that there were a sub-setting to this preference, that read something like: 'Only on sheet layers'

... so that I do not have to turn this setting on and off every time, I need to add a dimension to a sheet.

Since you can add this preference to the Quick Preferences on the tool bar, is it too much of a hassle to turn it on and off?
