Trainers in Computer Design Techniques for Landscape Professionals to Sign Books at Vectorworks Design Summit

Latest editions of "Residential Garden Design" and the "Vectorworks Landmark Tutorial Manual" now available

Columbia, MD (April 15, 2015)—To celebrate two releases in its training guide series, global design software developer Nemetschek Vectorworks, Inc. will host two book signings at the Vectorworks Design Summit later this month, and all registered attendees are welcome. Tamsin Slatter, author of Residential Garden Design, Seventh Edition, will sign books on Tuesday, April 28, 2015, and Jonathan Pickup, author of Vectorworks Landmark Tutorial Manual, Fifth Edition, will sign books on Wednesday, April 29, 2015. Both signings will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. ET in the Paris Foyer at the Sofitel Philadelphia Hotel.

The newly released workbooks are tailored to various skill levels and are suitable for designers who are new to the Vectorworks line of design software, as well as experienced users.

Specifically, Vectorworks Landmark expert Slatter highlights best practices for residential garden designers in her latest edition of Residential Garden Design, using features found in Vectorworks Landmark with Renderworks 2015 software. Among other topics, readers will learn how to:

• Produce a "white card" style concept render or include sketchy edges in a realistic-style render

• Use the Stair and Deform tools

• Create glazed walls

"I found Residential Garden Design easy to follow as it leads you through a complete garden design project from start to finish," said Faith Ramsay, garden designer at My Country Garden Design Solutions. "The book has an encouraging style that builds your confidence as you progress. As an experienced user, I find myself referring back to it for tips and shortcuts."

In the Vectorworks Landmark Tutorial Manual, experienced Vectorworks trainer Pickup provides a hands-on walkthrough of the concepts and techniques in Vectorworks Landmark 2015. The manual uses a series of exercises to explore the features and workflow capabilities of the software, starting with a simple exercise on landscape budgeting and progressing through the various stages of the design process in order to create a garden plan that can be presented in both 2D and 3D. In conjunction with the latest software version, the book explains the updated interface capabilities including new menus, commands and tools.

"The Vectorworks Landmark Tutorial Manual cleverly builds on prior learning and further deepens the knowledge users have of Vectorworks," said Jan Latham, a landscape designer and CAD tutor at Waikato Institute of Technology (Wintec) in New Zealand. "Landmark is a valuable tool for landscapers. This manual gives designers a logical understanding to get started with the software, and shows them how to prepare and present useful information to clients."

Both titles, along with other workbooks in the Vectorworks Press collection, will be available for purchase at the Summit for $75 each. Purchases can also be made at secure.vectorworks.net/estore/training. Members of the media interested in reviewing either book may contact Lauren Burke at LBurke@vectorworks.net or 443-542-0294.

About the Authors

After a 20-year career in the IT industry and working for large, corporate software firms, Tamsin Slatter shifted gears, retraining as a landscape designer. She soon became so hooked on Vectorworks Landmark, that she started a company that sells Vectorworks and trains designers from all disciplines on how to make the most of it. She has written training courses that are in high demand worldwide—with designers traveling across the globe to attend her sessions. Slatter is the founder and co-director of Design Software Solutions, where she runs a team of dedicated Vectorworks sales, training and consultancy professionals, comprising the largest Vectorworks training and reseller company in the United Kingdom.

Jonathan Pickup is an architect trained in New Zealand and in the United Kingdom with over 25 years of industry experience. In England, he learned how to work on and manage large, computer-based projects ranging from large shopping centers to high-profile commercial projects. After gaining his U.K. registration as an architect and learning to use Microstation and Vectorworks, Jonathan returned to New Zealand in 1997 and set up his current company to provide CAD training and support services to design professionals. Pickup is the author of several of the Vectorworks training manuals. Since 2007, he has been running an online training website (learn.archoncad.com) that has a worldwide base of subscribers that get together online monthly to improve their use of Vectorworks.
