michael john williams
Simple question - what happened to 3D rectangle in tool sets in 2015? It appears that you have to go to basic then draw a rectangle and then go to 3D and extract. I am sure you could easily do it in previous versions in the 3D tool set before. Quote Link to comment
zoomer
I think in 3D there is only the 3D Poly tool left. I found a square tool an put it in my workspace but that does not do what I want. The problem with the 2D rectangle tool is that 2D things seem to not have render textures. So if you are used to apply materials by classes, you have to check all 3D parts that were created by 2D elements, if they really have the class material applied. Quote Link to comment
Kevin McAllister
Many of the 2d/3d tools were merged in the transition to the layer plane/screen plane mess (ie. there used to be a 2d circle and a NURBS circle). Your rectangle is technically a 2d object oriented in 3d space if its set to anything other than screen plane. To change it to a 3d rectangle by using Modify>Convert>Convert to NURBS and then Model>3d Powerpack>Create Surface from Curves (I use the keyboard shortcuts because I do this all the time Command Option N and Command Option K). You could also convert it to a 3d polygon but I find NURBS more useful. As zoomer says, if you keep it as a 2d object in 3d space it can still have hatches and fills. If you want it to have a Renderworks texture you need to convert it to a 3d object as I've described. Kevin Quote Link to comment
AlanW
Hi, The 3D rectangle I think is now the Extruded Rectangle in the 3D tool sets. If its not in your 3D tool set go to customize and bring in to the tool set. Hope this helps. Quote Link to comment
