preston bircher designs
I have issues with all instruments facing straight down. They are placed on "Lighting Positions" and everything in the OIP looks right... what have I done? THX! Preston Quote Link to comment
SamIWas
Instead of pointing towards something? Do you have focus points assigned to them? Quote Link to comment
michaelk
It may be that you are missing the Parts record format, or that the instruments are not built with the parts assigned correctly. Can you copy one of the straight down instruments to a blank file and post it here? mk Quote Link to comment
preston bircher designs
It seems to be just this file. I'm using the VW supplied library of ETC Source-4's. If I edit the 3D resource--it shows it at the 45-deg angle as wanted in the rendering. In the past, they seemed to only react that way if they were not actually hanging on a "Lighting Position". There's a setting somewhere that I've screwed up--just how to find it!??!?!??! Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted March 16, 2015 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted March 16, 2015 If its just that file, i suspect the default symbol being used has lost its record links as michaelk suggests, if you can post it here we can take a look and see if this is the case. Alternatively, you can follow the steps here to make sure each part of the symbol has the record assigned, it should be easy to repair: http://www.vectorworks.net/getting-started-guides/spotlight/Gsg-2015-s09-custom-lighting-instrument The video goes over creating it from the group up, but will also show the steps youd want to verify. Vectorworks, Inc Employee klinzey Posted March 16, 2015 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted March 16, 2015 If you are editing the 3D resource and it's showing at a 45-deg angle it's not a current Vectorworks symbol. When you edit the 3D portion of a symbol the instrument should be pointed straight down. Once placed the lighting device will tilt all unfocused instruments at a default angle of 30-deg. preston bircher designs
@klinzey -- thank you... I will go back and replace all--but I've not added any ETC resources from a 3rd party... Honestly--I didn't check the actual angle... I played with one--and it appeared to be 45-deg... I'm not sure what happened... unless I used a VW2014 symbol in the VW2015 drawing. Is simply replacing all the fixtures the answer? THX..... Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee klinzey Posted March 16, 2015 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted March 16, 2015 Yes, if you replace the fixture with the one from 2015 it should fix itself. Before importing you may want to check the symbol you are importing and make sure it's pointed down. Vectorworks has not shipped the older style fixture since 2010 but you may have imported them from an older document accidentally. I've seen many people working out of resource files that they or others have compiled that are in the 2015 file format but are imports from much older version of Vectorworks. Quote Link to comment
