grant_PD
I want a swinging bipart set of doors that has no stile in the middle. What setting in the door tool is that? Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted November 11, 2014 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted November 11, 2014 If I understand what you're looking for, it should just be a Door object, set to Swing bi-part and then the Leaf set to Panel, 1 horizontal and multiple vertical. grant_PD
yes but I don't want the stile in the middle. I want them to bipart without a center stile so that I have an 8' wide opening. Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted November 11, 2014 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted November 11, 2014 I do not see that on mine, I didn't have to change anything to get a no-stile configuration on a swing bi-part door. Take a look and tell me if this appears the way you expect: Quote Link to comment
grant_PD
Yours is a great door. Here's my door. I can't see any difference in the settings. Are you using Designer and not just spotlight? Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted November 11, 2014 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted November 11, 2014 I do indeed have designer, let me see if its possible in Spotlight-only. Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted November 11, 2014 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted November 11, 2014 In your Door Settings, under the "Jamb" pane, do you have a setting for "Astragal Flange" and "Astragal Depth" ? When I access the settings for your door, I see these values both at 1". If I set them both to 0", the stile goes away. I had never noticed this setting until today, but it seems to remove it. Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted November 11, 2014 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted November 11, 2014 No problem! I used the highly refined scientific method of "Press every single button 'til something good happens!" Its my go-to troubleshooting technique. Quote Link to comment
Jonathan Pickup
the astragal is the mullion between the two doors. uncommon, but that's its name. Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted November 11, 2014 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted November 11, 2014 I hear a LOT of different terminology working with users here from different regions of the world, especially when it comes to components of doors, windows and roofs. I had never heard that referred to as a Stile or Astragal until this thread, only the "Center Post" "Mullion" or "Jamb Brace" I theorize that my brain will be completely full of semi-useless facts by age 53 and then I'll have to start dumping out old knowledge to fit more in, like... my birthday, or what color the sky is. Guest Wes Gardner
And then there are those muntins...not MUTTON, that's sheep meat...:-) Edited November 11, 2014 by Wes Gardner Quote Link to comment
grant_PD
I've heard it said that the astragal was the piece of moulding put on OVER the center stile. I used to call it the astragal, but gave up on it for a change. Same for muntins and mullions. I switch back and forth depending on who I'm talking to and how much they want to argue with me about what is what. Nevertheless, having an astragal/stile between two biparting doors is an important distinction, it's hard to believe that VW would bury it like that. Jim, feel free to submit that as a request, but I won't hold you to it, seeing as how we all know where it is now. Quote Link to comment
Jonathan Pickup
Astragal is an old term, readers of the Architect's Journal in the UK will know it as the rumours page... Quote Link to comment
zoomer
And now imagine someone like me sitting in front of these dialogs when US english is not their first language. Quote Link to comment
Jonathan Pickup
a picture for the settings would be so useful. Quote Link to comment
