minotto
How does one get Grass to look like this in Renderworks? Realistic Grass Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted November 10, 2014 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted November 10, 2014 We don't have a built-in Grass shader yet, unfortunately it isn't included in the version of Cinerender (R12 I think at the moment) we use for Renderworks. Once the Cinerender engine is updated we would be able to include a realistic grass shader. For now, short of modelling it manually, the best solution would be one or more image props I suspect. zoomer
Or to use the Displacement Option in Bump Mapping as kind of workaround. I think it was shown in one of the Starter Videos or Tutorials (?) Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted November 10, 2014 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted November 10, 2014 Its alright for thick carpet or astroturf-length grass, the issue with Displacement mapping for grass is that you can't get the random overlapping and curved blades at random angles as shown the image in the original post. Once I saw it done as a shader in C4D, which effectively removes 80% of the work traditionally needed to make realistic grass, I slapped the wishlist button immediately. Quote Link to comment
zoomer
I always thought Grass is included as Renderworks contains the Hair and ArchGrass DLL's Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted November 10, 2014 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted November 10, 2014 Nah those names don't necessarily reflect what Vectorworks can and can't do, don't use those as a reference in the future, many of those names are meaningless in relation to what the file actually does. Kevin McAllister
Just to clarify, VW uses Cinerender 14 as per this thread discussion - https://techboard.vectorworks.net/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=201257&Searchpage=1&Main=40604&Words=Cinerender&Search=true#Post201257 I think its one version before Grass was introduced.
