Add locus point to EAPs

bcd

Question

Similar to how the Sweep recognizes a locus point to define the rotation axis I'd like to add a locus point to an Extrude Along Path profile object to define the position relative to the path.

Currently the workflow is:

draw path, draw profile, EAP, edit profile move to location.

The proposed addition of a locus point would eliminate the extra steps.

So - draw path, draw profile place locus select all >EAP

- and

Wish 2

Add a Reverse Direction button in the EAP's OIP. This will quickly account for flipped profiles/paths.

Submitting wish 2 now.

For wish 1, do you think it would be a better interface to simply have the existing distance and orientation of the Profile object used as the offset from the Path during creation? Or is that a little too confusing/difficult to visualize before the EAP is created and the user can see it in 3D?

Currently the EAP uses the centroid of the bounding box as the locus so,

Perhaps this;

Leave the profile creation and EAP as they currently are.

In the OIP place an new Box Position Indicator for the Profile's position relative to the path AND x,y offsets from the selected position. (default bounding box center; x,y offset = 0)

So the default behavior is to extrude along the center and

one click in the OIP will shift the position to extrude to e.g. the bottom left.

Edit Profile will show the new location of the profile including offsets.

And on the topic of EAPs, we need the ability to extrude a 2D Symbol as the Profile. This would make 3D molding a thousand times easier to model, especially when wanting to switch to a different molding profile. If VW is truly *design* software then the ability to quickly visualize different options is crucial.

The EAP object should also recognize if a Symbol is being used as the Profile, and if so, there should be a button in the OIP to choose a different Symbol (instead of having to double click into the EAP Profile to insert the new Symbol and delete the old one). This new function would align the Insertion Point of the new Symbol with the Insertion Point of the old Symbol.

Even further, VW should then ask if you also want to replace the Symbol Profile in all other EAPs that are using the same Symbol.

(Imagine it taking only 4 clicks to replace all of the crown molding throughout an entire design! This could currently take hundreds of clicks depend on the complexity of the model.)

Edit: typos.

Completely agree. Adding this thread to the existing request for that as well, its been a wishlist item for a bit now.
