Alora
I've imported some drawings and the title block is at 1:1 scale while the rest of my layers are at 1/4" scale. When I try to past the title block into the other layers eg. the plan, it's miniscule. What scale should I use? Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted October 16, 2014 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted October 16, 2014 A title block should normally reside on a sheet layer, with viewports from the design layers to the sheet layers scaled as needed: http://kbase.vectorworks.net/questions/457/Custom+Title+Block Creating viewports in general: http://kbase.vectorworks.net/questions/826/Creating+Viewports Quote Link to comment
Alora
I've got Active Sheet Layer and Screen Plane - which is Sheet Layer? Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted October 16, 2014 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted October 16, 2014 Those are planes, which are explained here: http://kbase.vectorworks.net/questions/1086/Working+with+Screen+and+Layer+Planes If you aren't familiar with what design layers or sheet layers are, or if you aren't used to switching between them, make sure to go through the Getting Started Guides for Fundamentals as well as Architect: http://www.vectorworks.net/getting-started-guides Quote Link to comment
Alora
I don't have time to go through tutorial right now as I've got a deadline. (Actually been using VW for about 15 years but obviously missed this lesson.) The problem is I am working with another architect and am using his title block. Which plane should I import the title block to? The plans have been imported to screen plane but I can't paste the title block into it. Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted October 16, 2014 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted October 16, 2014 If you're in a rush, its a messy workaround but you can use Scale Objects to resize the geometry of the title block: http://kbase.vectorworks.net/questions/449/Scale+by+Distance Quote Link to comment
Alora
Hi Jim, How about if I just re-import the title block? It was sent as a DWG/DXF. Alora Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted October 20, 2014 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted October 20, 2014 That would also work if you scaled it during the import, yes. Quote Link to comment
Alora
Jim. Can you please walk me through the steps to import the title plan because changing the scale to 1:96, which is the scale for all of the other sheets, isn't working. It's still miniscule and I'm running out of time and patience! Thanks, Alora Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted October 21, 2014 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted October 21, 2014 It isn't a direct procedure, it depends on what scale/setup was used in the original DWG. If it were simple and clear I would provide the steps directly. Your best bet is likely to contact your local support or training and see if they can schedule a session with you to look at the file and provide guidance. 1 Quote Link to comment
Alora
I don't have time to book a training session between now and Friday when 17 drawings are due. Why would importing the Title Block from Autocad (DWG/DXF)be so much more complicated than importing the plans, etc? Can someone else please help? 1 Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted October 21, 2014 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted October 21, 2014 It isnt very complicated, just specific to what you get when you do an import, I am not sure what you are seeing exactly. The procedure should be: 1) Import the DWG into a new layer. 2) Use Scale by Distance to scale the title block geometry to the desired size. The video link provided above shows the needed steps for Scale by Distance: http://kbase.vectorworks.net/questions/449/Scale+by+Distance If you are still not able to get it working the way you like, you should contact training directly and see when you can speak to them. I understand you are on a time constraint, but learning how to do it properly takes time and often cannot be quickly answered on a forum thread. 1 Quote Link to comment
Pat Stanford
Better is to import the DWG into a blank file and then copy/paste the title block into your drawing. Or reference it in instead of copy/paste. Importing a DWG/DXF into an existing file can result in changes that you don't want to other parts of the drawing. One of the most common is changes to the dash styles. Quote Link to comment
