Kaare Baekgaard
Redundant control points are added to 2D objects after boolean operations. It happens in VW2015 everytime I do a boolean on objects with arc smoothing. This is very frustrating – especialy since the redundant points are not added symmetrically. As a result, I can no longer snap reliably to centerpoints. Is there a fix in the pipeline? Edited October 7, 2014 by Kaare Baekgaard Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted October 7, 2014 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted October 7, 2014 Could you send me a before and after operation set of objects in a test file? I can look into it here. (I do not think a fix is in the pipe as I have not seen nor heard of this issue before.) Quote Link to comment
Kevin McAllister
I've seen various extra points added too. Often VW adds extra corner points between curve segments that didn't exist in the original shapes. Quite inconvenient. Kevin Quote Link to comment
Kaare Baekgaard
Hi Jim Here is the file: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BxL3Oyph55RRWFRsWkxEVmEzamM/view?usp=sharing Do an add surface on the first objects to get the second object with redundant control points. Do you get a different result? Quote Link to comment
Kaare Baekgaard
Surprisingly this issue is not fixed in VW 2015 SP1. It's a bit like MS Office issuing a new release to fix a printerdriver – but you still can't use the letters A, B & C Edited October 22, 2014 by Kaare Baekgaard Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted October 22, 2014 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted October 22, 2014 Same results here. Its being tracked but no definitive date for a fix. Did you first notice it in 2015 or had it happened in any prior versions? Quote Link to comment
Kaare Baekgaard
No, it is a new issue Quote Link to comment

RGyori
Hello Kaare and Jim, I downloaded your file applied the surface command on the 2 objects and see the same problem. Out of curiosity I then reconstructed Kaare's shape: created 2 rectangles > applied the filet tool on the smaller > dragged them together so they touched > applied the add surface command. I double clicked on the resultant object and it appeared normal without extra or asymmetric control points. Question: How was the radiused box constructed? Bob Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted October 23, 2014 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted October 23, 2014 I was able to recreate the issue from scratch by creating a rounded rectangle, slicing it in half with the Split tool, then attempting to add one of the halves snapped to an edge of a rectangle. RGyori
Same here. Curious how the problem apparently depends on how the objects are constructed. Bob Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted October 23, 2014 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted October 23, 2014 It doesn't seem to happen in my tests if the vertices are all Corner type, as with regular polygons, rectangles and squares. If any of the vertices are Bezier, Cubic Spline or Fillet control points, I start to see issues after boolean operations. Quote Link to comment
Kevin McAllister
VW almost always adds those extra corner points on any shape containing curve points. They seem to exist to anchor the curved segments and isolate them from each other. They make curved objects hard to edit after any sort of boolean operation. I tend to go through and delete them but I would prefer if they didn't exist to begin with. I can show you instances where VW has added 20 or 30 points on things like decorative ironwork.
