sketchup import

Recommended Posts

when importing a sketchup model, it often leads to a whole big bunch of symbols cluttering up the VW resource browser. How is this affect avoided ?

for example .. I import a car, and I get a symbol for the bumper, another for the windshield, another for the tire, another for the hubcab, etc ....

In one case a house model imported as a big symbol with nested sub-symbols. I converted it to groups, but when that happened, all the textures were deleted. For example, the brick texture became a brown solid wall. Please tell me the best way to import sketchup... without the symbols cloggin up my resource browser.

I think you have to clean this either in Sketchup or later in VW,

as you like.

I prefer to ungroup everything in Sketchup and select by materials

to redivide geometry f.e. on Layers. (for Visualization)

Needs some iterations until you get all.

Sketchup is always a pain.

Geometry is not very CAD like.

It looks like you get a complete model but you have a lot of work

with double faces, holes, one or two point polygons etc.

In Vectorworks,

f.e. Convert the unneeded Symbols to group, Purge to get rid of the

unused Symbols.

If material loss works as expected - I don't know.
