Ok, so VW has had font mapping for years. A great idea if you're sharing files and don't have the same fonts as your colleagues. But font mapping needs to be more robust and useful. Font mapping should allow -
- for replacing a font document wide permanently. Any font, meaning that font mapping needs to list and track the status of all fonts in a document in its dialog box.
- shouldn't just map a font even when you hit cancel... something I discovered it does now.
- should have the ability to highlight mapped fonts in a document in a different colour temporarily so you can see clearly what's being mapped.
- consolidate down multiple fonts in a document down to one (could be done with the replace option above).
Font mapping is essentially a workaround at the moment. Its time it grew up and became a real tool.
