Phil hunt
What's the best way in vw to create a spiral staircase, it's not something I have to do much these days but I am doing this for a friend who is having a balcony...basically it's 2m in dia with a first floor level of 2900mm with a central tube support of 114mm ideally I would like to create the handrails and uprights in one go I have tried to create in the stair tool but to no avail, I could create this manually but I would have thought there's a way to do this. Any help would appreciated. Thanks Quote Link to comment
CipesDesign
The Stair tools have spirals. Look the configurations and choose one, then tinker with it until you like. Quote Link to comment
Phil hunt
thanks peter i tried the tool but i want the spindels/uprights for the handrail to be vertical but it seems on the presets they all follow the line of the handrails... The attached file is a model that i have created from scratch using a spiral sweep and then created the treads as a symbol and rotated them and then set the tread height manually..... it took some time but it worked out ok Quote Link to comment
CipesDesign
Glad you figured it out. I have also used the Stair Plug as a start, then Ungrouped it and fiddled around to get exactly what I needed. Quote Link to comment
Phil hunt
Thanks peter I didn't know you could ungroup the model created in the stair module.... I don't think I will be designing to many spirals in the future although it has been fun creating the model although it did challenge my maths ! Quote Link to comment
CipesDesign
You can ungroup any complex object. Of course the object will lose its parametric capabilities... But sometimes it's a good way to get close. Often I make a copy before ungrouping, so I can go back if needed. Quote Link to comment
