Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted September 10, 2014 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted September 10, 2014 (edited) This thread will be regularly updated to include the reviews and coverage from various news outlets, blogs and magazines as well as the various materials created for the release internally when they are made public. The point of this initial post is to keep the majority of information visible (it was somewhat buried within the original thread) and more easily accessible to those catching up with everything available. Vectorworks 2015 will be released on September 16th. However, it wasn't a specific task, but the edges seem a bit narrower than before. I'll verify. Quote Link to comment
Tom Klaber
Official Vectorworks 2015 launch page and video: http://www.vectorworks2015.net/ Word of warning: don't get excited about the interface, it's just the graphics they've chosen to use for this video I believe. I had to temper excitement in the office as some thought that the video was indicating a new UI. VW should move in that direction. It is a nice video. The graphics team did a good job, but it does not look as if the graphic language of the video will get rolled out across VW. The photo of the box is just using a green version of 2014. I liked the opening VECTORWORKS 2015 logo in the video. A guy in my office even comment - "Wow, it is looks like a real company now." (He is italian, English is not his first language - but I know what he means.) Now that all the engineers have completed the 64 bit transition, maybe a interface refresh can start in earnest. michael john williams
Will the 64 bit version work on a 32 bit pc? Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted September 12, 2014 Author Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted September 12, 2014 Will the 64 bit version work on a 32 bit pc? It will not, however this year there will be a 32bit windows version as well as a 64bit Windows version. On Mac, a 64bit Operating system (10.7 or later) is required. Quote Link to comment

No control over thickness in this release, for that you would want to render in a Renderworks mode with the new Artistic Edges control, which lets you include an artistic mode within a regular rendering mode which gives you a much nicer presentation. However, in OpenGL you will have control over the smoothing angle in 2015, which can be the cause of a lot of the messiness in edged OpenGL renderings. Quote Link to comment
M5d
Planet Vectorworks and your twitter feed are running this announcement up the pole again today. Earlier this year it was, and still is, referred to as a "partnership" between the two companies plus the twitter feed says, "Take your BIM to the next level with Synchro?s 4D integration", but the only thing I've been able to find linking the two softwares is that IFC is supported. Synchro Pro (SP) imports other proprietary BIM formats directly, or with a plugin produces a native SP file from within a BIM software without requiring IFC interpolation, is there more to this "partnership" story yet to come with 2015? I don't know about that partnership specifically, however the IFC area is not one I am personally familiar enough with to answer your question properly. I will see about getting you an answer from someone more fluent in it than I. Quote Link to comment

Kaare Baekgaard
Thanks for the new features. Check out the new 3ds import function with some meshes from archive3d.net. The textures are beautifully mapped ? even for UV textures ? and the mapping remains correct even when you tweak the mesh. Well done! Simon Allan
I got mine about an hour ago via the VSS Having trouble downloading the extras via the package manager though....just seems to be thinking about it and not actually downloading. Quote Link to comment

Did you use the option near the top to Install All? Or just one of the smaller libraries by itself? If it still wont continue, restart the machine and run the Package Manager again and try a different library individually, let me know the results. On internal and external network testing here it seems to be working. Quote Link to comment
Simon Allan
I first tried Install All and then cancelled each of the queued downloads one at a time (because it seemed to not be working) until only one was trying to download. This still did not fix it. I then quit the manager and restarted it and now, all is good. Quote Link to comment

mike m oz
Rendering and navigation are far quicker in Vw 2015. Even the Polygon modes are quick and the line work quality is excellent. Quote Link to comment
mike m oz
One of the minor improvements is that Classes can now have default Text Styles. Quote Link to comment
