willofmaine
When editing symbols, their orientation remains the same as the orientation that the instance being edited has (unlike previous versions, where the orientation editing a symbol would always be its original (y up, x to the right) orientation). If "Show Other Objects" is on, this behavior can be useful. Otherwise, it seems it would be better to just go to the symbol's original orientation when editing, especially because after going to Top/Plan view (which recalls the symbol's original orientation) the original orientation is then lost when switching from Top/Plan to Top view, which can result in the orientation constantly changing 90? when working with hybrid objects in a symbol... Or is there some setting to always edit symbols with their original orientation? Thanks! Will Quote Link to comment
Benson Shaw
There are a couple paths to symbol edit: ?via the instance in the drawing - dbl click, right click, cmd[ ?or via the the resource browser - right click, disclosure triangle. My foggy memory agrees with Will that in some earlier versions, edit from the resource browser went directly to the symbol creation view, while edit from the symbol instance on the drawing proceeded in drawing view. But maybe that's just wishful thinking on my part. I just checked edit of flyover view of simple extrude in v12.5.3, 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014. These versions all begin the symbol edit in drawing view whether the edit is accessed from RB or drawing instance. Will, or others, can you confirm which version(s) start the edit in creation view? Or a pref to force a symbol edit to begin in the symbol's creation view? This is a good wish for future versions. I always try to create the symbol at the drawing origin, and in an easy to set view. Sorry, not much help this time -B Quote Link to comment
