As my workflow incorporates a variety of programs I am finding VW's navigation increasingly frustrating. VW is built for 2D navigation yet the recommended workflow is now a 3D model. Navigation shouldn't be through "tools" it should be inherent to the workspace. You don't use a "tool" to scroll through a MS Word document, why should I need to choose a "tool" to rotate around a 3d model....

I'd like to be able to navigate our models like you can in a 3D game. Gravity, open doors, climb stairs, etc.

I agree. This is another example of the new world bumping up against the old.  With every new release, I feel more and more that the 2D workflow foundation is holding the software back.

It should be easy to find references of this, sketchup, revit...

I just discovered a fantastic feature in Rhino - using your finger to scroll on a Magic Mouse rotates the view around its centre in 3d (eg. its like using the Flyover tool). I want this in VW! Its such an intuitive way to rotate around a model. Left/right and up/down work as expected. And even better, holding shift and scrolling scrolls like it does in VW. I so wish for intuitive navigation in VW. Its becoming harder and harder to adjust when switching back from applications with more modern interfaces.

Without your hint I had never searched for that preference.
Works quite smooth.

Just when activated, using ALT to zoom is much too fast.
