Kevin McAllister
I would like the option to measure both the current distance and the new distance from the drawing when using Scale Objects - Symmetric By distance. Kevin Quote Link to comment

Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted January 20, 2014 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted January 20, 2014 I don't see what you mean yet, to clarify: Currently scaling with Symmetric by Distance has you measure the current distance, then enter the desired new value, (which I was considering the "new distance") So the user both knows what it is going to be and has control over it. Where is it that you would want to measure the new distance differently than that? Quote Link to comment
Kevin McAllister
Jim, I want to be able to measure the new distance (ie. it should also have a measure button next to it in the dialog, just like the current distance). Often I want to scale something to match existing geometry in a drawing. Right now I have to measure the existing geometry first and then invoke the Scale Objects command and enter the new distance manually. Scale objects currently assumes you know the size you want to scale to. Often you don't, its related to other objects or geometry in the file. Kevin McAllister
As an aside, what VW really should have is the Rhino Orient command set. Here's an example - http://docs.mcneel.com/rhino/5/help/en-us/commands/orient.htm That way I could scale and orient the object in relation to other objects at the same time. KM Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted January 20, 2014 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted January 20, 2014 (edited) OH duh, I get you. Measure once for old distance, then the same click-click measurement interface to set the two points for the new distance. That makes perfect sense. I need coffee. Submitting now. Well... after I get coffee. Edited January 20, 2014 by JimW Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted January 20, 2014 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted January 20, 2014 I like that, a 3D align-and-rotate-and-scale-by-points. I'll take a closer look and submit. Quote Link to comment
Kevin McAllister
Thanks Jim. Enjoy your coffee. Its ironic that we're both off to a slow start today and we're 3 hours apart in time zones :-) Kevin Quote Link to comment

Markvl
Curious. Is this something that was implemented in a service pack for 2017 or new for 2018? Certainly not in 2017 SP4. Edited October 17, 2017 by Markvl Quote Link to comment

Certainly not in 2017 SP4. Just checked it out in 2018 and indeed it is there. Well there is another plus for 2018. Small but mighty. Quote Link to comment

Best feature so far, and not just because I wished for it Kevin Quote Link to comment
G Troyer
Have wanted this feature for a long time and love using it in 2018. Way to go Vectorworks! Quote Link to comment
