Tim Schultz
Can anybody explain anything about GDL programming? I have heard that it generates "rules based" parametric objects. I think this would allow you to introduce conditional statements into your objects. These objects might, for example, take on differing characteristics depending on how you toggle some other parameter. Can GDL operate outside the Archicad environment? Can GDL objects be used inside a vectorworks drawing? Would this provide a path to ODBC? I appreciate anyone's insight on this. Thank you. Quote Link to comment
Guest
Tim, Here is a link that will give you more info about Graphisoft's GDL technology: http://www.gdlalliance.com/Parametric/GDL.html Seems that GDL Technology has an adapter that allows AutoCAD users to use GDL objects: http://www.gdlalliance.com/News/adapter.html GDL does not say anything about ODBC. To get ODBC in VW we have to add support for it independant of any GDL work. Quote Link to comment
Tim Schultz
Robert, Does Nemetschek anticipate adding support for ODBC any time soon? Thanks, Tim Quote Link to comment
Guest
To my knowledge there is nothing in the works. If this is a feature that users request often I am sure that would change! Quote Link to comment
Guest
Comp Sci and Math mostly, I had one political science class and thought it was a waste of time. Some have Electrical Engineering, some Physics. No Political Science degrees that I know of. I am quite serious about that statement though. I have seen features dropped/added based on a mass of complaints/wishes from customers. So continue to voice your wishes. I would enjoy working on a project like that. I think it would be interesting but then the project I am currently on would not get done.. and I think most users would rather see this project get done than have ODBC capabilities. Patrick Gilbert
Hi Robert Could you tell me how Intrerior cad extracts data from Vectorworks, apparently not via odbc.I have a feeble understanding of programming but I would like to get a grasp on how it basically works to help understand potential limitations in this area. Guest
Hello Patrick, I am not familiar with Intrerior cad, can you give me some more information on them? Is that the name of their product or their company? Quote Link to comment
Matthew Giampapa
Well I don't know about the "masses" but here are the results that I got...VectorWorker Poll Results I'll admit its not scientific, but I re-opened the poll in case anyone else would like at add their opinions. If you want to vote at this point, you can do so from the main page. [ 11-14-2002, 06:01 PM: Message edited by: Matthew Giampapa ] Quote Link to comment
Patrick Gilbert
Robert It is German software that is a bolt on to Vectorworks. They have about 1200 users in Germany I'm told. It might be called Interiorworks or Interiorcad not sure. Interiorcad utilizes some sort of data base that generates the ancillary data ie task times and bill of materials from the drawings so I'm assuming that it comes through the data base in Vectorworks. If there is no Odbc then would that mean the data comes through the Api? Guest
The is a lot of information in VW that can be accessed through the SDK. Here is a link: http://www.nemetschek.net/support/custom/sdk/Index.html I don't know anything about the product you mentioned but if they are using the SDK they have access to all the information they need. Is this what you were wanting to know? Quote Link to comment
Patrick Gilbert
Robert yes that is what I wanted to know, thank you very much. Pat Quote Link to comment
