gester
hi, in what scale do you usually draw in vectorworks (i mean the document settings, i use metric here)? i was accustomed to draw 1:50 in archicad, as it is the scale you can easily go lower or higher, and besides archicad can't scale text (i don't know if it's been improved recently). so the 1:50 seemed to be the universal size to work with. are there any best practice tips for vw in this case? thanks in advance. rob Quote Link to comment
VincentCuclair
Well it really doesn't matter, it's only a representation of what you're drawing 1:1 so mainly what feels best for you. If you don't have a specific preference I would suggest using the scale you use most when creating SLVP, this will reduce the amount of scale 'fixing' later on. Quote Link to comment
gester
thanks vincent, it's what i actually thought. the real reason i ask for the best practice procedures concerns the graphic representation of the architectural drawings, most of all the line weights and hatches (as patterns scale with). is there any recommendation, or is it really of no importance? rob Quote Link to comment
VectorGeek
This is excellent advice from Vincent. Draw at the predominant scale that your viewports will be set to. VectorGeek
gester: Final output drawing scale is based on a number of things: - type of drawing (plan, detail, wall section, site plan) - size of project (shopping center, SF dwelling) - desired page size (compact or "bed sheet") - available printing technology - bureaucratic requirements - personal preference - eyeglass prescription - not kidding For example, I have done large projects at 3/32" = 1'-0" (roughly 1:120 in metric terms) for floor plans to make them fit on a D size sheet without match lines, which I personally try to avoid. It all depends. V-G. Quote Link to comment

VincentCuclair
This is partly addressed in this wish list item: http://techboard.vectorworks.net/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Main=35657&Number=175472#Post175472 Quote Link to comment
