Jim Smith
Before I re-initialize my drive...any one have VW 8.5 running on MAC system 8.2 that for some reason will not start because of an "Unexpected Error"? Quote Link to comment
CipesDesign
Jim, the obvious questions: what won't restart? The computer or VectorWorks? Have you changed your configuration recently? Any new software? Downloads? Have you tried holding down the SHIFT key (restart with no extensions)? PLC Quote Link to comment
Jim Smith
Thanks for the reply, Vector Works is what does not launch. I have done all the standard stuff, rebuilt desktop, started without extensions, run Norton, trashed down loads from the past week, and re-installed the programme. All with no luck. My last thought is to wipe the drive and re-install everything. Quote Link to comment
MikeB
Did you trash your preferences file? Quote Link to comment
Jim Smith
Yes, tried that Quote Link to comment
Guest
Are you launching the program by double clicking on a file, double clicking on an alias, or double clicking on the application from within in the VW 8 folder? Do you get the message right away or do you get a splash screen and then you get the error, or does the application launch and draw the drawing area and THEN get the error? This information can help determine where the problem is. Quote Link to comment
Jim Smith
I get the message right away before the programme starts. I have tried double clicking on files, the programme, as well as an alias. Quote Link to comment
Guest
Does the VW folder look like it has everything it needs? Do you have QuickTime 4 installed? Quote Link to comment
Jim Smith
I think so, I know that the player works. Thing is, this problem only started after I downloaded the newest version of QuickTime. I trashed the latest one[5?] that I had just downloaded prior to running into this problem Quote Link to comment
Guest
That's probably the problem. When you install QT 5 or QT 6 there are some necessary components that do not get installed by default like they did with QT 4. When installing QT 5 and 6, you need to use the CUSTOM install rather than the typical install. If you are using VW 8, I do not recommend using QT 6 since there are a number of isses with that. Those issues were addressed with VW 9.5.3. Quote Link to comment
Jim Smith
Thanks, now that I've done a clean install of my system software, I will avoid QT6! Quote Link to comment
