Civil & Structural Tools

What are the specific plans for offering tools beyond the DTM package. How about Structural Design, Land Surveying and Road/Sewer Design? These tools are available for AutoCad... How about employing those companies to integrate their products into Vectorworks?

At this time, we're not aware of any companies like Eagle Point developing such products. If they were interested, we would be glad to provide them assistance.

We are currently planning to offer an land development add-on package similar to the VectorWorks ARCHITECT product. We anticipate it will be out sometime early in 2001. There will also be a landscape architecture product that should be out later this year.

With respect to the land development product, we expect that it will include components focused on earthwork, surveying, storm water management, and utilities design.

With the number of Autocad users that would prefer to use Vectorworks... I was hoping the response might be that Diehl Graphsoft was actively pursuing this market by contracting with developers such as Eagle Point, Geosoft, Civilsoft,PacSoft....there are lots of companies that support Autocad because they were asked to do so. Just open a Civil Engineering magazine and see all the developers.

What about intergrating structural design? Again there are lots of developers who could benefit if Diehl Graphsoft would pursue the market. You bridged the Mac/PC gap... There are several hundred thousands of Autocad users (Civil & Structural Engineers) that have no option...

Eric, we appreciate your support of VectorWorks! This is a bit of a "chicken and egg" problem, though. Many third party software companies support ACAD not only because they were asked to, but also because there is a very large existing user base. VectorWorks' user base, while growing, isn't nearly the size of AutoCAD's... yet. As a result, the civil engineering verticals may not see the potential for profit that we believe exists.

Add to this the learning curve for learning a new development system (VectorScript instead of ARX or Autolisp) and you might see that it's not just because "we didn't ask them to."

We remain open to any and all viable business opportunities and partnering, including any of the existing ACAD third-party developers.

Does Diehl Graphsoft's business plan include investment to develop new markets... There are lots of civil engineers and architectural engineers that have no option.

We've been keeping an eye on this--is there any more news about the land development add-on package? specifically--is there a release date? :-) We are very interested in this product.

thanks in advance--

Hi all,

We continue to monitor for market potential both here and in the professional community in general. While our policy dictates that we make no statements regarding future plans, we happily invite your specific suggestions for new products and for improvements to existing products.

It's all part of the process for product development...

Best regards,
