Christian Fekete
I do not want to use parametrics but would rather design with extrudes. I cannot subtract from a volume another volume. One is an extrude along path and the other is a cube. Am I doing something wrong, which command should I use? Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted September 13, 2013 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted September 13, 2013 Just to clarify, one object is an Extrude Along Path and the other is a standard Extrude? Both of the source polygons inside the extrudes are closed figures with a solid fill? If you convert both objects to generic solids (Modify > Convert > convert to Generic Solids) and then try to subtract them, it still does not work? If it still fails, contact tech@vectorworks.net with the file attached. Quote Link to comment
Kevin McAllister
If you're using the Subtract Solids command and it fails its likely the geometry doesn't overlap. I would check it from a few different views just to make sure. KM Quote Link to comment
Christian Fekete
I was not able to do that so I changed my modeling to just regular extrudes. My question is how do you modify a push/pull volume? Example: A cube with a 45d cut corner. Is is possible to just trace a line on top of the cube and to pull down the triangle to remove? A bit like sketchup if you will. Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted September 19, 2013 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted September 19, 2013 (edited) For that you would probably be looking for the Taper Face tool that was just added in Vectorworks 2014: http://www.vectorworks.net/2014/new_features.php (Video cant be linked to directly yet, should be in the "Best in 3D" section on the far right.) That tool and Twist were very well liked and well received, I wouldn't be surprised to see more tools like them appear in the future. The way Sketchup handles editing of raw 3D geometry seems to be very intuitive and many users have asked how to use Vectorworks in a similar manner. Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted May 19, 2015 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted May 19, 2015 Please make sure to put your Vectorworks version and system information in your signature, similar to mine and Kevin's, it will make troubleshooting in the future easier.
