whitecap Posted October 3, 2002 Share Posted October 3, 2002 riddle me this....... in the vw users guide it says or rather isinuates[sp?] that text can be converted, read extruded, to 3d objects. instructions are; select>text menu>true type to polyline. from that point forward i'm supposed to be able to extrude but hal, my little computer buddy here, says these objects can't be extruded. mr. wizard??? more gremlin choices please,whitecap Quote Link to comment
Bryan_dup1 Posted October 3, 2002 Share Posted October 3, 2002 Hey there, I do this alot in my work; After you convert to polyline you need to; 1. Ungroup Command 2. Then Extrude 3. If you have letters with inside spaces like "O" you may need to subtrate the center from the outside perimeter. This depends on what you are doing with the text. You will also notice that f you had italiced text it went back to normal text. So, before you ungroup take the skew tool and fake italics, then ungroup & extrude. Some Truetype fonts are alot more friendly to this than others, you will find that as you go. Good Luck. Quote Link to comment

Matthew Giampapa Posted October 4, 2002 Share Posted October 4, 2002 By subtrate he means to subtract the inide of the letter from the outer shape. In VectorWorks 8, the TrueType to Polyline command would leave letters as two super imposed polylines so when you extrude them, they would be a single filled in letter. This was fixed in VW 9 and later so you shouldn't have to worry about that step. Quote Link to comment
