Gizmo
I need to do some accurate design drawings involving parabolic dishes. I figure that I can revolve a 2D parabola, but I'm pretty new to this program, and I don't even understand how to generate a 2D parabola! Where to begin? I've just dusted off my copy of VW 8.5.1 on a Mac with the hope that I could use it for this, so more recent tools won't be available to me. Quote Link to comment
islandmon
Indeed, the correct procedure to use is 'Revolve with Rail' which may not be supported by v8.5. Check to see if you have: file://localhost/Applications/VectorWorks/Plug-Ins/Parabaloid Object.vso Quote Link to comment
Gizmo
Alas, no, it's not there. Is upgrading the only option? Is there a way to draw or input a parabola, and then revolve it? Or would the lack of "Revolve with Rail" keep me from doing even that? Quote Link to comment
Bart Rammeloo
You can just revolve a spline. That should do the trick. Drawing a parabolic spline is pure math, so that part shouldn't be hard. Just watch out for the quality of the 3D-object. VW 8 doesn't use NURBS, and the representation of your 3D-shape might not be attractive. Quote Link to comment
Kaare Baekgaard
I just upgraded to the architect pro solution, so I don't know if this goes for all versions, but I have a 3D parabaloid object tool in my toolbox. Quote Link to comment
