How would I make this?

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to make this object that I found in a photo that I cant figure out how to make. It's a white box with a company logo that seems to glow form the inside. Here are some pictures of it. It may be a little hard to see.

Depends a bit on your goals. You need a texture on a box shape.

Box -Make an extrude and give it a fill color but that will have a top and bottom surface. Separate the sides and delete the top/bottom:

- Select the extrude >Modify>Convert>Convert to Group.

- Dbl click the group (puts you in edit mode) to see that it contains 6 3d polys.

- Delete the top & bottom polys.

- Use the Flyover tool as needed to change your view angle.

- Click OK to exit the group.

Now make an image texture (you need Renderworks for this):

For instance, draw 3 lines, a "C" and a "T" and arrange them as in your example.

Select them.

Open an image editor then File>New from Clipboard. Save - name and location.

Add the image as a resource to your Vectorworks file:

Back in Vectorworks open the Resource Browser palette if it is not visible.

- In the top pulldown select your current file.

- Click the Resource triangle and select New Resource>Image

- Navigate to your image and click OK.

Create a new image texture:

- Click the Resource Browser triangle again and select New Texture

- In the Create Texture dialog work with the Color,Reflectivity,Transparency shaders

- - - Color>Image>Reuse an Image from Another Resource>image you added

- - - Reflectivity>Glow

- - - Transparency>Plain

- - - Bump you probably don't need

In the Size box, enter the edge size of your extrude (may be too big, but start with this)

These shaders have edit menus for intensity of the effects. Dbl click the texture name in the Resource Browser to explore!

Apply your texture:

Enter the group (dbl click) & Select one face of your box

In the Object Info Palette click the Render Tab

In the Texture pulldown, select your new texture

Repeat for any the other faces which need the texture

Render Notes:

Set the Open GL options for Texture and Shadow if needed.

In the OIP Render tab

- - -Turn off the Hor & Vert repeats

- - -Use the H & V offsets to center your texture on the face

- - -Use the Scale slider as needed to resize the texture on the face.

- - -OpenGL only supports one color fill for several objects with same texture.

Read VW help about image resources and textures.

Post back as you get this going.
