Plant list

Recommended Posts

I have created a new descriptive plant list worksheet with fields including height, flower colour etc. All working fine in most cases, but in just a few instances the height given is wrong - ie it does not match the height given in the plant object description. I have tried editing the plant object description, both within the file I am working on and in the parent library file from which the plant object was imported, to no avail. Where else should I look?

I am sure Tamsin will jump in soon, she is on that side of the pond and is a fantastic resource for you.

Can you post a stripped down file with just a couple plants with the correct heights and a couple incorrect heights? And the worksheet.

a small sample file would certainly help, and without that just guessing. But my guess is That you might be looking in the wrong place for picking up the information about the plant size. what I'm trying to say is that when you look at the plant definition for the plant size, your worksheet might not be picking up the same field.

Have made a small sample file including some of the same plants and the same worksheet and it all works fine - heights in the sample file are correct. But they still remain incorrect in the other file. Not sure where or how I should attach the sample file?

Hi Roger

Why not send the file directly to us on support@vectorworks-training.co.uk? We'll take a look for you.

Cheers

Emailed reply. The issue is caused by the SUM function being applied to the Latin Name column. Because there is more than one instance of each plant, Vectorworks is also summing the height data. If you add the SUM function to the Height column, this will reverse the process. Have sent you an email with screenshots...

Tamsin,

Is this a problem in VW 2009?

I sum by Latin Name Column often and have not had this problem

Yes, it's been a symptom of the summarise facility for a long time. If you summarise the results, numeric values such as price, height or spread will also be summarised. But you can add the sum to numeric columns and the worksheet will then display the original entered value.
