Create Walls from 3D Polys

Recommended Posts

So this is perplexing. Create a set of walls from a 2D polygon produces what one would predict; as set of walls to the shape of the 2D poly. However, if one has made a 3D shape, & want to use it as the thing to produce the walls one must first convert the object to a set of 3D polys. If one then produces a set of walls from these poly's using the CENTRE choice, it behaves correctly.

If one chooses either LEFT or RIGHT the resulting walls are set at what looks like a 5? angle (either right or left).

So what the Heck is going on?

(Image on the right is the correct version, the one on the left is the goofy one)

Jim, I'm pretty sure that the Create Walls from Polygons command is intended to be used with 2d Polygons... The fact that it works with 3d Polys at all is what baffles me. Further, it's so easy to either a) trace Walls around your 3d Poly, or b) Draw (or create) the 2d Poly to use with this command... Why reinvent the wheel?

OK - just checked and if you just search the contents, it's cunningly hidden. However, if you click on Index, and type Model in the search box, you'll find it.

You need to have your layers set up at the correct elevation for each floor and they need to intersect your solid object. It's really handy.

It's under AEC > Space Planning > Model to Floorplan
