doug shaffer
Hi - I have never used the Data Stamp tool until today, but it appears that it is not working properly. When I create a PDF file or send directly to the printer the date and time do not update. I have "Reset all plug-in objects that require a reset..." checked in both the create PDF and Print dialog boxes. The particular instance of the data stamp that I am referring to is within a symbol that we have for our title block. Also (perhaps this is a clue) the data stamp does not update when I close then open the file again. Any help is appreciated. Quote Link to comment
Jonathan Pickup
do have to click on the title block to update it? what if you enter the symbol and exit it again? Edited December 6, 2012 by Jonathan Pickup Quote Link to comment
doug shaffer
When I click on it nothing happens. If I enter the symbol then exit again, nothing happens. To get it to change, I have to select it and change a parameter. (then change it back.) Thanks for any advise - Quote Link to comment
michaelk
I use the data stamp in title blocks all the time and they update as expected. Does Tools>Utilities>Reset All Plug-Ins update the data stamp? If you close and open the file does it update? mk Quote Link to comment
doug shaffer
Hi, mk - Tools>Utilities>Reset All Plug-Ins does not update the stamp. Closing and opening the file does not work, and quitting VW doesn't work, either. The only thing that seems to work is changing a parameter within the plug-in object. Weird. Any clues? michaelk
Nope. Can you strip down and post a file with the bad data stamp? mk Quote Link to comment
doug shaffer
Here's the problematic file. Thanks for your help! Quote Link to comment
michaelk
Very interesting. I've always been using the sheet border tool to manage title blocks. When the sheet border tool is used, the data stamp updates perfectly. If the data stamp is inside a symbol (and that symbol is not called by the sheet border tool), it refuses to update. mk Edited December 6, 2012 by michaelk Quote Link to comment
Cadplan Architecture
I use the data stamp in title blocks all the time and they update as expected. Does Tools>Utilities>Reset All Plug-Ins update the data stamp? If you close and open the file does it update? mk Interesting, I hadn't thought of using a DS that way. How do you use it it in a title block then? any chance of posting an image or a VW2011 file? Quote Link to comment
michaelk
2011 file attached. To update the data stamp(s): 1. Print or create a PDF. There is a setting in the print dialog box to "reset all plug in objects". It lists the Data Stamp as one of the objects. Make sure that option is checked. OR 2. Tools > Utilities > Reset All Plug-Ins Agree to the warning. OR 3. Drag the drawing border and title block away from its position. When you release it, it will snap back into place and update the data stamps. hth mk Quote Link to comment
michaelk
Interesting, I hadn't thought of using a DS that way. Me either! I stole the idea from somebody else around here. I should have pointed out step 0: Edit the symbol that is your title block. Insert the data stamp or stamps. mk Quote Link to comment
Cadplan Architecture
I just tried it with my title block but I don't see how to use it as it's just a date stamp and it doesn't seem like you can customise it. Maybe you use it with the sheet border tool? Quote Link to comment
michaelk
I just insert it into the title block symbol. Turn off all the things I don't want. mk Quote Link to comment
IanH
Unfortunately, if you scale your title block, the DS doesn't. I use same title block for different sheet sizes and just rescale to visually match. As the DS does not rescale with the title block, I have to place it separately. Not a biggie for me as I don't normally produce more than one or two sheets per plan. Quote Link to comment
