Christian Fekete
I would like to create a symbol of a round door that is called moon door in chinese. It is an open round framed opening. Here is my result with creating it. As you can see it is less than what I was expected from the imaged reference. Could anyone suggest a fix or a better way to do this? Edited November 23, 2012 by Balitog L Quote Link to comment
michaelk
1. Create the geometry for the door frame. Make sure the bottom of the frame is at Z=0. 2. Create the geometry for the wall cut out. (extrude of door frame + opening). Make sure the bottom of the cut out is at Z=0. make sure extrude is thicker than wall. 3. Create 2D geometry for door graphic 4. Select all. Create a symbol. 5. Edit the symbol. 3D part. Select the cut out geometry. Cut. 6. Right click on an empty space. Choose "3D Wall Hole Component". Paste in Place. 7. Insert a dummy door with the door tool. 8. In the OIP choose Settings. In the General Tab, check Use Symbol Geometry. Navigate to symbol. example attached. hth mk Edited November 23, 2012 by michaelk Quote Link to comment
michaelk
PS. The faceting in the circular part of the door frame is from the Open GL rendering Detail being set to "Low". Raise it to Very High and it will smooth out. mk Edited November 23, 2012 by michaelk Quote Link to comment
Christian Fekete
Very nice work indeed! I worked it out with a wall recess but the frame is not there. I guess I'll have to look at the wall hole notion. Never used it before. Thank you it is very helpful Quote Link to comment

michaelk
You can also use the 3D Wall Hole Component for wall recesses. Just draw the geometry so it only partially intersects with the wall. mk Edited November 25, 2012 by michaelk Quote Link to comment
