What is 'save viewport cache' option for?

Here's a question: what's the 'save viewport cache' option even for (when editing annotations)??

Can we just take it out and have it set to always save viewport cache? Or something else. It's incredibly frustrating when you're on a deadline and you don't have this option checked.

Check it in your template. And make sure you turn the option to view the rendering on when editing annotations.

I know it's frustrating when you forget it and that VW needs to find something better for this.

That's all good and fine but that takes time to feed through a system and doesn't cover existing files or other situations where someone's turned it off for instance.

Hehe, yeah thanks for that, except that's why I posted this in the first place. I forget. But it's not my fault, it's the fault of the user interface.

No, it's no longer an option in the Edit Viewport dialog box. Editing Annotations always shows with the rendered cache.

 

However, there IS a Document Preference called "Save Viewport Cache" which saves rendered viewports in the file when you close it, so that you don't have to re-render everything each time you open a file.
